Along with various amounts of electronic processing to test weight of unit, weight/size of battery, duration/s at various levels etc. We played around with light at the high end of the spectrum, with various combos of passive and active goggles back at Uni. Because night is not dark (not really, more not as bright), and as visilble light has quite a large U.V component, U.V googles would just not be worth the effort.
